Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir on winning a silver medal in the Ice Dance event at the Olympic Games in Sochi:
“Canadians are proud of the performance and silver medal won by Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir in Ice Dance today at the Olympic Games. Tessa and Scott continue to inspire and show the world that Canadian athletes are among the very best.”
Tessa Virtue currently resides in London, Ontario, where she was born, and Scott Moir, who was born in London, Ontario, currently resides in Ilderton, Ontario. This is the duo’s third Olympic medal in their second Olympic Games, having won gold in Ice Dance at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and silver in the Team Figure Skating event in Sochi. They are also the 2010 and 2012 ISU World Champions and three-time World silver medalists (2008, 2011 and 2013), 2008 and 2012 Four Continents Champions, and six-time Canadian Champions (2008-10, 2012-14).
