Minister Leitch encourages parties to work together to end their labour dispute
March 22, 2014 - Ottawa, Ontario - Employment and Social Development Canada
Today, the Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, congratulated the Canadian National Railway (CN) and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) for returning to the bargaining table and working to reach a new agreement.
Mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) are assisting the parties with negotiations. The FMCS provides dispute resolution and prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
“I am pleased that CN and the TCRC have decided to resume negotiations, as the best solution is always the one that parties reach themselves. We will continue to provide the parties with the support and assistance of mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to help them resolve their labour dispute.”
