March 10, 2014 – Corner Brook, NL – Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Canadian Heritage
Corner Brook will soon be home to a new multi-disciplinary arts centre to help support the region’s growing cultural tourism industry, thanks in part to funding from the Government of Canada. The Corner Brook Arts Centre Association will establish the Centre to support new and emerging artists, as well as the growth of established artists. The initiative is in response to public consultations held to identify the needs of the arts sector and the community at large.
A total federal investment of $450,000 is being provided towards the initiative, with $360,000 from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and a $90,000 contribution from Canadian Heritage. The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) and the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, made the announcement today.
“Our Government, through ACOA, is pleased to support the Corner Brook Rotary Arts Centre, which will help strengthen and grow the experiential and cultural tourism industry in this region. Our investment will contribute to the diversification and competitiveness of Newfoundland’s west coast, while creating jobs and economic growth in local communities.”
The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency)
“Arts and cultural organizations strengthen our communities and enrich Canadians’ quality of life. The Corner Brook Rotary Arts Centre will offer residents and visitors unique cultural experiences. Our Government is proud to invest in this important project, which will make a valuable contribution to the well-being and the economic vitality of this region.”

“This announcement of generous funding from our federal government completes the over four years of work by a dedicated group of volunteers. The Rotary Arts Centre will bring significant new business development to the City’s downtown core and will provide our growing arts communities with new facilities in which to create and sell their art. The Centre will feature a 90 seat theatre, art gallery and artists’ studios that will draw locals and tourists alike to downtown Corner Brook and it will help increase the economic contributions of the arts and cultural tourism in general in our city.”
