HAMILTON, ON (March 24, 2014) – The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has developed an e-course to help Ontario supervisors learn about Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and how it affects their role as a supervisor.
Under the new Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training regulation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which comes into force on July 1, 2014, all employers in Ontario must ensure that their supervisors complete a basic health and safety awareness training program. This course meets this requirement.
CCOHS’s newest e-course, Health and Safety Awareness for Ontario Supervisors, will provide participants with an understanding of their duty as a supervisor under the Occupational Health and Safety Act as well as their role in health and safety policies and programs.
Participants can expect to learn more about the rights of workers, and how supervisors play a key role in fulfilling these rights as well as common workplace hazards and occupational illnesses; how to identify and control them to keep workers safe; how to recognize, assess, control and evaluate hazards to keep workers safe.
Upon completing the e-course, participants will be able to print a Certificate of Completion, and, with the purchase of a multi-seat account, employers can track and prove their supervisors successfully completed the required training. CCOHS’ e-courses are unique in that they are developed by subject specialists in the field, and reviewed by representatives from labour, employers and government to ensure the content and approach are unbiased, credible and technically accurate. There are quizzes throughout and a certificate of completion is issued upon passing the exam.
