March 21, 2014 – Saskatoon – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Government of Canada is providing a total of $12,508 through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund to the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival to improve its main tent and sound system.
Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament (Saskatoon–Wanuskewin), made the announcement today on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Shelly Glover.
Improvements to the site include a new roof skin for the main tent structure to increase the safety for staff, artists, community groups and visitors. Upgrades also consist of purchasing a modernized sound system including a digital soundboard, a laptop and software for cue production and playback, speakers, a subwoofer, cables and an audio snake. This updated sound system will better meet the various needs of artists, allowing for top-quality performances.
“Making sure communities have access to safe and adequate facilities where artistic creativity can take place is essential. Today, our Government is helping to ensure top-notch performances continue to be offered on the bank of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon.”
—Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“Thanks to this investment, the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival will enhance its existing performance space. I am proud that our Government is supporting these improvements, which will allow residents and visitors alike to continue enjoying live, quality theatre in a beautiful natural setting.”
