Ottawa, March 20, 2014 — The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister for Multiculturalism, issued the following statement to mark Nowruz:
“Today, people will gather in Canada and around the world to celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year.
“Nowruz takes place at the exact time of the spring equinox and symbolizes the changing of the seasons and the renewal of life. It is a time of great joy, to visit family and friends, share special foods, reflect on the past year, and hope for good health and success in the future. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the ancient cultural and spiritual roots of the Persian community.
“I would encourage everyone across our great country to use this time to reflect on the tremendous contributions that people of Persian heritage have made to Canada's rich, diverse heritage and prosperity.
“As Minister for Multiculturalism, I wish everyone celebrating today a healthy and happy Nowruz.
“Nowruzetan Pirouz!”
