The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, is currently leading the Canadian delegation at the Seafood Expo North America. She is meeting with buyers, suppliers and exhibitors from across North America and the European Union. Minister Shea stopped to talk to New Brunswick’s True North Salmon, a division of Cooke Aquaculture, about its new line of products, Evolution of Salmon.
“It is gratifying to visit one of the world’s leading seafood expos and witness firsthand the positive reception that our seafood and our practices around seafood get,” said Minister Shea. “Canada is recognized as a global leader, which is why we are such a big draw at this event.”
“True North Salmon is pleased to launch Evolution of Salmon, our new line of products at Seafood Expo North America,” says Andrew Lively, Director of Marketing at Cooke Aquaculture, True North Salmon’s parent company. “The creative new line includes candied Atlantic salmon, premium cold smoked Atlantic salmon and premium hot smoked Atlantic salmon.“
- New Brunswick is Canada’s second largest exporter of fish and seafood, with exports valued at $1.1 billion.
- New Brunswick exported 98,777 tonnes (t) of fish and seafood in 2013.
- The top three exports by value were lobster (22,473 t valued at $493.4 million), farmed Atlantic salmon (29,240 t valued at $228.5 million) and snow/queen crab (9,701 t valued at $108.2 million).
