March 10, 2014 – Regina, Saskatchewan
The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, was in Regina today to visit RCMP Academy “Depot” Division’s facilities and participate in the Troop 15 graduation ceremony.
Since 2006, the Harper Government has made significant investments in order to help the RCMP upgrade and expand its infrastructure, including the RCMP Academy in Regina. This funding has enabled the RCMP to further develop its state-of-the-art training facility, thereby ensuring that cadets develop and maintain the skills required to protect Canadians.
- The RCMP Academy, “Depot” Division, is the only facility in Canada used for training RCMP cadets and has undergone significant renovations over the last several years.
- In addition to RCMP cadets, RCMP Depot provides training to various national and international law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
- Over 5,000 people have completed training through the RCMP’s National Law Enforcement Training Unit (NLET) including Canadian federal, provincial, and municipal government agencies, and law enforcement agencies from countries throughout the world, including Spain, Haiti and the US.
