Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced the appointment of Mr. Gene McLean as a member of the Security Intelligence Review Committee (SIRC). Mr. McLean is currently an executive security advisor and principal of McLean Security Advisory & Associates Inc.
Mr. McLean brings over 35 years of experience in security and enterprise risk management and is a former Vice-President and Chief Security Officer for Telus Corporation.
Mr. McLean is a life member of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and an associate member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He served as Director of the Society for the Policing of Cyberspace and was the first recipient of Canadian Security magazine's "Canadian Security Director of the Year" award.
In accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act, Mr. McLean was sworn into the Queen's Privy Council for Canada.
Established in 1984, SIRC provides an external review of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service's performance of its duties and functions, and examines complaints by individuals and reports by ministers relating to security clearances and the national security of Canada.
