Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating Mark Arendz on winning a bronze medal in the men’s biathlon 12.5 km (standing) event at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games:
“With great skill, confidence and determination, Mark Arendz has earned his second Paralympic medal at these Games. On behalf of all Canadians, I share in his pride and happiness, and extend my sincere congratulations on this well-deserved bronze medal.”
Mark Arendz was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and currently resides in Canmore, Alberta. This is his second Paralympic medal in his second Paralympic Games, having already won silver in the men’s biathlon 7.5 km (standing) event at these 2014 Games, as well as having also competed at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Paralympic Games. Mr. Arendz is the reigning world champion in the 7.5 km biathlon. He finished 1st overall in the 2012-13 World Cup standings, and 2nd overall in both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 World Cup standings.
