March 10, 2014 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Western Economic Diversification Canada
Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) will increase the information technology services and product development assistance it offers to small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with an investment announced today by Kelly Block, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Saskatoon—Rosetown—Biggar, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The $213,600 in funding will allow SIAST’s Computer Systems Technology Applied Research Centre (CSTARC) to purchase key information technology (IT) equipment. The increased capacity from the new equipment means the Centre can pursue new technology development projects with SMEs as well as provide more IT process development and servicing projects.
CSTARC is an extension of SIAST’s Computer Systems Technology diploma program. The new technology development projects will open up greater opportunities for the SIAST students who have been providing basic IT services for SMEs through the Centre as a means to acquire industry experience and skills development opportunities.
