The Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, today issued the following statement on the Ring of Fire Agreement between Matawa First Nations and the Government of Ontario.
“I am encouraged to hear that an agreement has been reached to begin a negotiation process between the Province of Ontario and Matawa First Nations.
“We welcome the important progress made to advance the incredible potential that the Ring of Fire has to offer Northern Ontario.
“Economic and social benefits for First Nations and local communities are critical to the success of this project. Our government is committed to responsible resource development that creates jobs, growth and prosperity for Northern Ontario.”
