Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement congratulating Canadian winners at the 86th Academy Awards:
"On behalf of the entire country, I offer my congratulations to those Canadians who took home an Academy Award this year for their impressive work and exceptional accomplishments in the film industry.
"More specifically, I would like to congratulate Jean-Marc Vallée, Director of the Dallas Buyers Club, which took home Oscars for Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
"I would also like to extend best wishes to the recipients of the Academy's Scientific and Technical Awards, including Yves Boudreault, André Gauthier, Benoît Sévigny and Robert Lanciault who won a Scientific and Engineering Award for the design and implementation of the FiLMBOX software application. Tibor Madjar also won a Technical Achievement Award for the concept and design of the Mudbox software, while Colin Doncaster took home a Technical Achievement Award for the development, prototyping and promotion of technologies and workflows for deep compositing.
"We are very proud that Canadians continue to shine on the world stage, garnering international acclaim for their diverse contributions to film, entertainment and the arts. Our Government will continue to support and promote film and television production in Canada, given the significant cultural and economic benefits that the industry brings to our society.
"Once again, congratulations to all of the Canadian winners and nominees. They all make us tremendously proud and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours."
