The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Tom Lawson, hosted his United States counterpart, General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, for high-level discussions this week on a range of topics, including readiness, maintaining interoperability and bilateral military cooperation.
The United States is Canada’s most important ally and defence partner. Our unique cooperative relationship is unmatched and provides both countries with greater security than could be achieved individually.
“Canada shares a close and long-standing defence relationship with the United States. We work together to ensure continental security through NORAD; we partner on operations for hemispheric security such as Operation CARIBBE, countering the flow of narcotics in the Caribbean; and we work together internationally through NATO missions and international coalitions. This visit provided our militaries with a tremendous opportunity to exchange information, discuss common challenges, and look to new opportunities to work together in the future.”
General Tom Lawson, Chief of the Defence Staff
