Ottawa, April 1, 2014-The president of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, Dr. ChadGaffield, announced today that he will be stepping down from his role at the federal granting agency on August 31, 2014, to resume his position as professor at the University of Ottawa. Dr.Gaffield was appointed to SSHRC in 2006, and was reappointed for a second five-year term in 2012.
"For over eight years, I have had the great privilege of working with an outstanding team at SSHRC, and collaborating with council members, the research community, and partners across public, private and not-for-profit sectors to enhance the contribution of the social sciences and humanities to our economic prosperity and quality of life," said Dr.Gaffield. "I am deeply encouraged to see the increased recognition across society of how better knowledge and understanding of human thought and behaviour in the past and present are key to make a better future for all Canadians."
"As I reflect on all of our collective achievements," he continued, "I feel it is the right time for me to return in the fall in my role as a professor, knowing that SSHRC, as a high-performance organization, will continue to support the very best talent and insights and to facilitate the most effective connections to help secure that future."
