April 10, 2014 – Thetford Mines, Quebec – Department of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development, Minister for La Francophonie, and Member of Parliament (Mégantic–L’Érable), today announced $15,000 in funding for the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines. He made this announcement on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Shelley Glover.
This Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Exhibition Circulation Fund of the Museums Assistance Program. The funding is allowing the museum to present Marc-Aurèle Fortin: Paysages modernes du Québec traditionnel (Modern Landscapes of Traditional Quebec), a travelling exhibit on the work of Quebec painter Marc-Aurèle Fortin.
“I am pleased that our Government is helping promote greater access to our cultural heritage by giving Canadians outside large cities a chance to see a major exhibit from a Quebec museum.”
—Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“Our Government is pleased to give residents and visitors in the Chaudière-Appalaches region a chance to discover the priceless artistic heritage of a great painter like Marc-Aurèle Fortin. The richness of his work has helped forge our collective identity and continues to inspire many Canadians today.”
—The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development, Minister for La Francophonie, and member of Parliament (Mégantic–L’Érable)
“The Musée minéralogique et minier is proud of our partnership with Canadian Heritage, and grateful for its support for our public programming. The Museums Assistance Program's Exhibition Circulation Fund is vital to the region’s museums and communities. Without it, we could not diversify our programming and give our citizens access to visual arts exhibits like Marc-Aurèle Fortin: Paysages modernes du Québec traditionnel.”
