This memorandum of understanding (MOU) aims to strengthen Canada-United Arab Emirates (UAE) cooperation toward fostering economic and social development in developing countries.
More specifically, this MOU aims to help bring about poverty reduction that is consistent with the principles of sustainable development, strengthening good governance, and the protection of human rights.
The UAE and Canada have designated the UAE’s Ministry of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) and Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) to carry out their respective roles under this MOU. The MOU will support a more effective approach to common development challenges through policy dialogue, enhanced institutional linkages, and joint programming.
Policy dialogue under this MOU will focus on development policy, sectorial issues of common interest, as well as multilateral issues.
Potential enhancements via institutional linkages could include staff exchanges or visits to observe or participate in specific aspects of their respective programs, participation in training programs designed for development officials of each department, as well as other forms of institutional cooperation that may be agreed upon between the participants.
Regions of programming cooperation are expected to include the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Sectors of programming may include health, education, sustainable economic growth and food security.
