The Government of Canada today announced the addition of the Oshawa Port Authority to the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act. This addition now makes the port authority subject to the legal requirements of the Acts.
Canada Port Authorities were created to operate Canada’s national ports in order to provide stability and facilitate an efficient and competitive national ports system. While these port authorities are autonomous entities that operate on a commercial basis at arm’s length from the federal government, they are expected to be accountable and open to Canadians.
Today’s addition of the Oshawa Port Authority is consistent with the standards of transparency and public accountability to which all Canada Port Authorities are held.
