OTTAWA, April 27, 2014 – I am delighted that the Gala Artis is paying tribute to television professionals this evening. This gala is an opportunity for the public to celebrate Quebec’s small-screen artists, since it is viewers who have the honour of choosing the winners.
I am very proud of the creativity and talent of all the finalists and award winners, and of the community of professionals in our television industry.
In 2012–2013, Canada’s film and television production sector generated more than $5.8 billion for our economy, in addition to 127,700 jobs. Our Government knows that the audiovisual industry is a key driver of job creation and economic growth in Canada. That is why we are proud to support the sector by investing more than $600 million annually through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Canada Media Fund and tax credits.
