At NFB.ca beginning April 11

Beginning April 11, the NFB, in partnership with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, will present McLaren Now free of charge at NFB.ca. This brilliant selection is composed of animated works by some of Norman McLaren's artistic heirs, including such renowned contemporary creators as Oerd van Cuijlenborg, Steven Woloshen, Rose Bond and Billy Roisz.
This innovative program was designed by Marcel Jean, Artistic Director of the Annecy Festival, the world's most prestigious animation festival.
Two similar film programs will be launched at the Annecy Festival, running from June 9 to 14. They will subsequently be presented at festivals and events in Canada and elsewhere around the world before becoming available at NFB.ca.
McLaren Now is part of a series of events organized by the NFB in collaboration with partners in Canada and abroad to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of this great pioneer of animation. It is a tribute to his immense artistic legacy as well as his spirit of innovation and exploration, which are still alive and vibrant today.

• Events in collaboration with partners:
• In Montreal: McLaren Wall-to-Wall will be presented by the NFB and the Quartier des Spectacles from April 11 to June 1. This architectural pathway will consist of seven tailor-made video works projected onto seven building façades in the Quartier des Spectacles. The selection includes three interactive works by Montreal creators, along with four winning films from the international competition. The winning artists are from Spain, France and Japan.
• In Scotland and elsewhere in the United Kingdom: McLaren 2014, a broad program of cultural events, has been organized by the Centre for the Moving Image in Edinburgh in collaboration with the NFB. From April 11 to August 3, special exhibitions, screenings, workshops and performances will pay tribute to McLaren.
• In France: The exhibition Norman McLaren en héritage will run from April 30 to June 16 at the Musée-Château in Annecy. The exhibition illustrates McLaren's international influence on numerous artists, primarily through his correspondence.
• Online: The public is also invited to discover or rediscover the McLaren's Workshop iPad app. The app provides an opportunity to watch 51 animated films by Norman McLaren and 11 documentaries about his animation techniques as well as to create animated works.
