Canada is committed to its fight against global poverty and its contribution to help make the world a safer and more peaceful place.
Canada is contributing $13.3 million over five years through its Connecting with Canadians Initiative to Canada’s seven Provincial and Regional Councils for International Cooperation and the Yukon Development Education Centre (YDEC).
Canada’s support to the Provincial and Regional Councils for International Cooperation and YDEC will help reach over a million Canadians every year through a range of public engagement activities aimed at increasing awareness of and involvement in international development. YDEC, as a new partner to Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada will help reach Canadians living in the three Northern territories, which has not been possible until now.
In addition, this initiative will build the capacity of more than 400 civil society organizations to advance Canada’s development priorities and deliver concrete results to improve the lives of those most in need.
The eight organizations which will receive funding are:
- Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC - $1,699,400)
- Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale (AQOCI - $1,692,960)
- Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC - $1,696,960)
- British Columbia Council for International Cooperation (BCCIC - $2,529,131)
- Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC - $1,698,361)
- Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC - $1,698,340)
- Saskatchewan Council for International Cooperation (SCIC - $1,705,727)
- Yukon Development Education Centre (YDEC - $409,175)
