Canadian workers to benefit from three-year contract with Royal New Zealand Navy
May 1, 2014 - Ottawa, Ontario - Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada
The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade, congratulated Lockheed Martin Canada today on winning its first export contract to supply its Combat Management System, developed in Canada, to the Royal New Zealand Navy.
The three-year contract is valued at over $180 million and will support jobs and create opportunities across Canada. It was facilitated by the memorandum of understanding on defence matériel cooperation between the Canadian and New Zealand defence ministries.
The Government of Canada supports Canadian defence industry exports under the Defence Procurement Strategy (DPS) and through the DPS’s Export Strategy, announced in February 2014. New Zealand is a priority country and defence is a priority sector under the Global Markets Action Plan.
Lockheed Martin Canada’s Combat Management System was developed for the Royal Canadian Navy’s fleet of Halifax-class frigates.
“I am pleased that our government contributed to the successful contract between Lockheed Martin Canada and the Royal New Zealand Navy. Canada’s defence companies are world leaders and contribute greatly to the Canadian economy through job creation.”
