May 5, 2014 – Kingston, Ontario – Correctional Service Canada
On May 4, 2014 at about 9:00 p.m., a lockdown was put in place at Joyceville Institution, a multi-level security federal institution to allow staff to conduct a search of the institution.
The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates. Visits have been suspended until the search is completed. Regular activities will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is committed to preventing the entry of contraband into its institutions. Our efforts help to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.
In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will continue to review the circumstances surrounding this incident and take the appropriate measures.
