The Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today announced Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) will partner with the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS) to provide ANAVETS staff and volunteers with training on VAC programs and services. A two-day training session held this week offered in-depth information on VAC benefits and services, allowing ANAVETS representatives to assist Veterans in their own communities gain access to the full suite of programs and services offered by VAC.

The New Veterans Charter (NVC), which came into force in 2006 after receiving unanimous consent by Members of Parliament of all political parties, was designed to provide Veterans and their families with the tools, assistance and support they need to effectively transition to civilian life.
The NVC offers both immediate and ongoing financial support, while also providing comprehensive medical, psychological and vocational rehabilitation services, health care benefits and one-on-one case management.
Enhancements to the New Veterans Charter in 2011 include improvements to financial benefits for our most seriously disabled Veterans and their families.
These improvements represent an investment of $189 million over five years, and are helping more than 5,200 Veterans.
ANAVETS is Canada’s oldest Veterans’ association. Its first unit formed in 1840, and the organization was incorporated in 1917.
The group has approximately 15,000 members in 68 units across Canada. Membership is open to those who have served or are serving in any branch of the armed or auxiliary forces of any portion of the British Commonwealth, or its allies.
ANAVETS comprises the Dominion Command, located in Ottawa, and seven provincial commands and units in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwest Ontario, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
