The Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State (Western Economic Diversification), on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario, today addressed the Canadian Hydropower Association Forum 2014, where she emphasized the importance of the hydropower industry to Canada’s economic prosperity.
During her speech, Minister Rempel stressed the significance of hydropower as a source of clean energy. The Minister recognized hydropower as a leading source of electricity in Canada, creating jobs, growth and prosperity for all Canadians. She also underscored that responsible resource development is a top priority for the Government of Canada.
Citing the Lower Churchill Projects and other developments underway as examples, Minister Rempel noted that the hydropower industry will continue to thrive and provide Canada with clean, sustainable energy. The Minister encouraged members of the industry to capitalize on the increasing global potential of this sector to create jobs and export Canada’s know-how, expertise, products and technologies to other countries.
