Latest honour for Jill Sharpe's multi-award-winning Vancouver production
May 22, 2014 – Toronto – National Film Board of Canada
Vancouver filmmaker Jill Sharpe's acclaimed National Film Board of Canada (NFB) documentary Bone Wind Fire has added to its list of honours with a nomination in the Documentary – Historical category at the Northwest Emmy Awards. Winners will be announced on June 7 in Seattle. An intimate and evocative look at artists Georgia O'Keeffe, Emily Carr and Frida Kahlo, Bone Wind Fire is produced by the NFB's Pacific and Yukon Centre.
Presented by the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Northwest Emmys celebrate the best in television in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Washington. Bone Wind Fire qualified for the Northwest Emmys thanks to a broadcast last year on PBS station KCTS Seattle.
Written and directed by Jill Sharpe and produced by Yves J. Ma for the NFB, Bone Wind Fire is a journey into the hearts, minds and eyes of Georgia O'Keeffe, Emily Carr and Frida Kahlo—three of the 20th century's most remarkable artists. Using the women's own words, taken from their letters and diaries, the film reveals three individual creative processes in all their subtle and fascinating variety. In 30 carefully prepared and creatively photographed minutes, the film captures the view through the artists' eyes.
The Emmy nomination is just the latest honour for this acclaimed 30-minute film, which was named Best Canadian Film at the FIFA International Festival of Films on Art in Montreal, Best Short Documentary at the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival, and Best Documentary Short at the Sonoma International Film Festival, and received the People's Shortee Prize at the Taos Shortz Film Fest. Bone Wind Fire also won the award for Best Overall Sound at the Leo Awards, recognizing the best in British Columbia film and television.
