Approximately 4 500 Canadian Armed Forces members are taking part in the largest Canadian military exercise of the year, Exercise MAPLE RESOLVE 2014 (EX MR14) at Garrison Wainwright, Alberta from May 5 to June 1.
Also participating in the exercise are units from the United States Army, United States Marine Corps, and a British Infantry Company, bringing the total number of troops to nearly 5 000 and making this year’s exercise the largest Exercise MAPLE RESOLVE ever held.
EX MR14 provides the arena for Army soldiers to sharpen their skills within a realistic, complex and challenging operating environment. Troops respond to conventional and asymmetric threats in a joint, integrated and multinational environment. The end goal of the exercise is to test and confirm the readiness of participating Army units to deploy anywhere in the world at any time.
“Exercises like MAPLE RESOLVE help the Canadian Armed Forces to become a more efficient, agile, and adaptive organization. Following on the lessons learned from the mission in Afghanistan, the Canadian Armed Forces continue to develop combat effective units capable of responding to a multitude of threats.”
Honourable Rob Nicholson, PC, QC, MP for Niagara Falls and Minister of National Defence
“This exercise, our largest and most important of the year, is the cumulative collective training event that confirms the Canadian Army’s high readiness posture. The resulting validation will see yet another strong combat effective Army Task Force ready to accomplish any mission, anywhere, any time, and proud to serve Canada at home and abroad.”
Lieutenant-General Marquis Hainse, Commander of the Canadian Army
