May 6, 2014 – Innisfail, Alberta – Correctional Service Canada
During the 4:30 p.m. count on May 4, 2014, staff members at Bowden Institution discovered that Maurice Rondeau was not accounted for. The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Innisfail detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
At approximately 9:35 p.m. on May 4, 2014, Maurice Rondeau was apprehended without incident by police.
CSC and Bowden Institution are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
