OTTAWA – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, PC, QC, MP for Niagara Falls and Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement today:
“Since it proclamation in 2002, Canadian Armed Forces Day, observed on the first Sunday of June, is an opportunity for all Canadians to recognize our military’s tremendous contributions.
As part of these celebrations, Canadian Armed Forces members and civilian employees of the Department of National Defence will participate in the 8th annual Walk/Run in Red in Ottawa today. Support for this event has grown immensely since the first Red Friday campaign was held in 2006.
Today’s Walk/Run is being held in conjunction with other Canadian Armed Forces Day events on Bases and Wings across the country. This annual event provides an excellent opportunity for members of the public to recognize the contributions of Canadian Armed Forces members and their families.
It is a privilege to cheer on our Canadian Armed Forces during the Walk/Run in Red. I extend my heartfelt appreciation for their dedication, professionalism and service, and my profound gratitude to their families."
