Ottawa - The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls and Minister of National Defence, issued the following statement today in recognition of Mental Health Week:
“I would like to commend the Canadian Mental Health Association on their continued work to raise awareness of mental health issues. Today marks the beginning of Mental Health Week, which encourages all Canadians to learn, talk, reflect and engage with others on issues relating to mental health. Campaigns like Mental Health Week help us all reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
The health and wellbeing of our Canadian Forces Members is of the utmost importance to our government. We want to ensure that Canada’s men and women in uniform know that mental health help and support is available, and that reaching out is the first step in the road to recovery.
I encourage those who are in need of support to please reach out to your family members, peers, supervisors, padres and medical professionals. Help is also available at your base and wing clinics, as well as by dialing the member assistance program (1 800 268 7708).”
