"I was very interested to learn about the Canadian Chamber of Commerce's proposal to increase the Canadian private sector's involvement in international development.
"First of all, I am pleased that the Canadian Chamber of Commerce recognizes the many opportunities offered by international development for the benefit of Canada's economy.
"Our government is committed to increasing partnerships with the private sector to promote sustainable growth in developing countries. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce proposes very interesting and promising avenues to explore in this regard."
Christian Paradis
Minister of International Development and La Francophonie
Last week, during his visit to the World Economic Forum on Africa (WEFA) meeting in Nigeria, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, was appointed as Chair of the WEFA-OECD Redesigning Development Finance Steering Committee. This committee will promote a more systematic approach to wide-scale testing and scaling up financial innovations and blending capital from philanthropists and private investors, to accelerate progress toward development objectives. Once again, Canada is recognized around the world for its strong fiscal management, focused on employment, growth and prosperity.
