(OTTAWA) – June 25, 2014
Export Development Canada (EDC) and the Schulich School of Business (Schulich) today announced that their jointly developed global trade management program, the first of its kind in Canada, saw its first three graduates.
The Certificate in Managing International Trade and Investment program (CMITI ) is offered as part of EDC’s collaboration with Schulich’s Centre for Global Enterprise, launched in November 2013.
The Centre is a one-stop consulting, research and teaching hub that actively helps Canada’s small and medium-sized businesses compete internationally.
Irida Jano, King Chun Kwong, and Matthew Cheuk will receive their CMITI certifications along with their International Bachelor of Business Administration degrees upon graduation.
“We believe that instilling the next generation of business leaders with knowledge of international trade is of vital importance to Canada’s future economic prosperity,” said Catherine Decarie, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications and Human Resources at EDC.
“Our heart-felt congratulations go out to Irida, King and Matthew,” added Ms. Decarie. “They now have the skills necessary to make an impact in the competitive world of international trade, and we look forward to watching as their careers progress.”
The CMITI program, delivered through York University, was designed to give students a competitive edge in international markets and to help to create the next generation of globally-minded business leaders.
Key executives in international trade were consulted during the development of the program to ensure that what is taught in the classroom, and learned during the practical portion of the certification, will translate to the boardroom.
EDC is also working with the Centre to create a National Curriculum in Integrative Trade that will be available to all Canadian universities.
