NIFCO enhancing its facility and equipment

The Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers Cooperative Limited (NIFCO) is enhancing its facility, equipment and technology, thanks in part to investments from the Government of Canada and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Federal and provincial investments of more than $1.1 million will make it possible for NIFCO to enhance both its equipment and facility, particularly in the sound and picture departments, in order to improve its training and professional development capacity and better service its members' productions. NIFCO has also enhanced its colour correction technology to better service its members' productions, expand its market, and enhance its viability.
The Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers' Cooperative (NIFCO) is an artist-run, not-for-profit organization that acts as a resource for media artists and the arts community. It is an integral part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s film industry and is a strong voice on behalf of independent media artists. Its facility is the only one of its kind in the province and plays a very important development role in the local film industry.
Quick Facts:
- NIFCO is improving its post-production media management system (shared media storage), post-production audio system (ProTools audio technology), and post-production picture system (online and finishing, edit Suites A, B and C, etc.), as well as undertaking recording studio renovations and purchasing other related equipment.
- NIFCO has already added a DaVinci Resolve Turnkey System, a monitoring system, a test and measurement system, and other related office equipment, and NIFCO staff have received training and consulting from the DaVinci Resolve manufacturer.
- The Government of Canada, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund and its Business Development Program, invested $559,957 in two projects to allow NIFCO to better meet the needs of local industry.
- The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador also invested $559,957 through the Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development.
