June 25, 2014 – Moncton, New Brunswick – Infrastructure Canada
Residents in the tri-community area of Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe today celebrated the official opening of the Tower Road Dam and Reservoir in Turtle Creek, which now ensures that residents have continued access to safe, clean drinking water.
Built along Tower Road, this new 1.5-kilometer-long by 20-meter-high earth-filled dam and 250-hectare reservoir will provide the communities with an additional 16.5 million cubic meters of water. The original dam and reservoir, designed to service approximately 100,000 people, had outgrown its design capacity as the Greater Moncton Area has seen tremendous growth in recent years. The new dam and reservoir can now serve close to double the population, meaning a significant improvement in the ability of the region to provide for both current and future demands for clean drinking water.
"We are proud to support this significant infrastructure project that will ensure that the Greater Moncton Area's water supply meets the needs of its growing population. Our Government's investment in initiatives like the Tower Road Dam and Water Reservoir project clearly demonstrates our continued commitment to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for all Canadians."
- The Honourable Rob Moore, Regional Minister for New Brunswick and Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency), on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec
