June 23, 2014 – Grise Fiord, Nunavut – Infrastructure Canada
Residents and government officials celebrated the opening of the Grise Fiord Hamlet Office Complex. Nunavut's smallest community, with a population of less than 150, will benefit from this multi-purpose facility, which is now equipped to address the multiple program and service needs of the community.
The new facility includes hamlet offices for staff members, the Iviq Hunters and Trappers Organization, and the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, as well as a gymnasium and a much-anticipated community hall—the first of its kind in Grise Fiord.
"Our Government is proud to have invested in this project that will provide an essential community gathering place and resource centre for years to come. Continued federal support for major infrastructure projects that will help our communities remain strong are a key part of our plan to create jobs, growth and long-term prosperity across Canada."
- The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, Minister for the Arctic Council and Member of Parliament for Nunavut
"The Grise Fiord Community Centre and Hamlet Office Complex is a welcome addition to the community. The new hall is a focal point for the community and a place where people can come together and celebrate, while the adjoining hamlet office provides a central point of access to a range of programs and services. The Government of Nunavut is proud to partner with the Government of Canada to bring this valuable community asset to the residents of Grise Fiord."
