June 24, 2014 — Toronto, ON — Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander on Tuesday congratulated winners of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards, which recognize newcomers who have made a strong contribution to their communities since arriving in Canada.
Organized by Canadian Immigrant magazine and RBC Royal Bank, the peoples’ choice awards - which have been given to deserving newcomers for the past six years - allow Canadians to nominate and then vote for those immigrants who have contributed to and achieved success in Canada.
The Government of Canada is a global leader in helping immigrants by providing them with assistance with language training, community connections and skills development which helps newcomers become active members of Canadian society.
The Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards is a positive and concrete example of the private sector becoming involved in efforts to foster a welcoming society and raising awareness of the benefits and contributions of immigration.
A total of 16 winners were announced at the event in Toronto. The remaining nine will be announced on June 26 in Vancouver.
A list of the winners is available at Canada’s Top 25 Immigrants 2014.
