An NFB presentation in partnership with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival
June 2, 2014 – Montreal – National Film Board of Canada
The National Film Board of Canada (NFB), in partnership with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, is marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Norman McLaren with McLaren Now, two brilliant programs of works by some of the animation master's artistic heirs—acclaimed artists such as Oerd van Cuijlenborg, Christopher Hinton, Steven Woloshen, Pierre Hébert and Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre.
Both programs were curated by Marcel Jean, Artistic Director of the Annecy festival, and will premiere at this prestigious annual celebration of animated film, taking place this year from June 9 to 14. They will subsequently be presented at festivals and events in Canada and elsewhere around the world before becoming available at NFB.ca. The first McLaren Now program was launched on NFB.ca on April 11.
The Musée-Château in Annecy is also featuring the Norman McLaren en héritage and Pierre Hébert exhibits through to June 16. NFB executive producers Michael Fukushima and Julie Roy will be at the museum on Tuesday, June 10, at 7 p.m. to mark these two artists' exceptional contributions to animation.
McLaren Now and Norman McLaren en héritage are part of a series of events organized in collaboration with partners in Canada and abroad to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of this great pioneer of animation. It is a tribute to his immense artistic legacy as well as his spirit of innovation and exploration, which are still alive and vibrant today.
