Ottawa, June 27, 2014 — The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister for Multiculturalism, issued the following statement to mark the start of Ramadan:
“Tomorrow, Muslim Canadians and Muslims around the world begin the month-long spiritual journey of Ramadan.
“Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is the month in which Muslims believe the Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed.
“It is a time of reflection, as Muslims are called upon to fast, worship, pray and read the Qur’an. It is also a month for giving, sharing and gathering with family and friends. Each day ends with the Iftar – an evening meal to break the daily fast.
“As Minister for Multiculturalism, I extend my best wishes to all members of Canada’s diverse Muslim community.
“Ramadan Mubarak.”
