Mission results of over $400 million in new market access opportunities will significantly strengthen Canada’s agricultural science and trade ties with China

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz has completed a successful agricultural trade mission to China where he led a delegation of more than 70 people including representatives from 30 associations and companies, provincial Ministers of Agriculture from British Columbia and Manitoba and officials from Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Minister Ritz held meetings with key Chinese government officials, reinforcing the importance of stable long-term trade, as well as science and technology partnerships between the two countries. These meetings yielded major market access achievements that will benefit a wide range of Canadian agricultural sectors.
Minister Ritz also engaged in meetings with Chinese industry where he helped advance the interests of Canadian agricultural businesses looking to expand their reach in the emerging Chinese market.
