Thanks to joint federal and municipal funding
June 23, 2014 – Windsor, Ontario – Infrastructure Canada
Windsor residents and visitors are now enjoying a newly revitalized Ottawa Street. The historic "main street" is an economic and social anchor to the surrounding neighbourhoods, and the beautification of the street will help stabilize and add vitality to this treasured and well-established commercial district.
The rehabilitation and streetscape improvements included road reconstruction and paving on Ottawa Street between Windermere Road and Pierre Avenue. In addition to the roadwork, new benches and bike racks have been installed, and trees were planted on both sides of the street to create a distinct, welcoming experience in the heart of the city.
"Our Government is proud to support infrastructure projects, through the federal Gas Tax Fund, which help communities revitalize historic districts which are essential to the health and prosperity of communities like Windsor. The enhancements to Ottawa Street will attract residents and visitors alike for years to come, while generating an environment where businesses can thrive by preserving the character of this area making it distinct, safe, interesting and pedestrian friendly."
- Jeff Watson, Member of Parliament for Essex
"The federal Gas Tax Fund delivers for Ontario's municipalities by meeting our pressing need for infrastructure investment. Through our unique federal-municipal partnership, municipalities invest the Fund exactly where it is needed the most which helps to make our communities safer, more efficient and prosperous."
