Ottawa, Ontario - 2 June 2014
Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that Tony Abbott, Prime Minister of Australia, will be making an official visit to Ottawa on June 8 and 9, 2014. While the two leaders have met previously, this visit will be Prime Minister Abbott’s first official visit to Canada.
During the visit, the leaders will discuss ways to further strengthen relations between the two countries. In the lead up to the 2014 G-20 Summit, which will be hosted later this year in Brisbane, Australia, job creation and economic growth will be top of mind. The leaders are also expected to discuss global and regional issues, including the status of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade negotiations, ongoing challenges in Ukraine and the Middle East, and developments in the Asia-Pacific region.
