Prime Minister Harper and U.S. Vice-President Biden met today on the margins of the inauguration ceremony for Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, in Kyiv.
Their discussion focused on the situation in Ukraine. Specifically, they re-affirmed the need for Russia to recognize the result of elections in Ukraine, to stop the flow of weapons and militants across the border, and to exercise its influence among armed separatists to lay down their weapons and end the violence in Ukraine.
They also re-affirmed their commitment to intensify sanctions on Russia if events require it.
Prime Minister Harper and Vice-President Biden committed to staying in touch as the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve.
