Partnership puts shovels in the ground
June 14, 2014 – Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta – Infrastructure Canada
Fort Saskatchewan is upgrading trailheads and adding 13 km of new trail to its extensive trail system as part of the River Valley Alliance's (RVA's) $90-million Capital Region River Valley Parks Project – Connectivity Phase, announced in January 2013. The project is made possible with equal support from federal, provincial and municipal governments.
The Capital Region River Valley Parks Project – Connectivity Phase was created to improve public access to the North Saskatchewan River and river valley and add new trails and features to existing infrastructure in what is North America's longest metropolitan park system.
Once connected, the Capital Region river valley will span 18,000 acres and include 88 kilometres of trails. The seven RVA municipalities include: the Town of Devon, Parkland County, Leduc County, City of Edmonton, Strathcona County, Sturgeon County and the City of Fort Saskatchewan.
"Our Government is proud to invest in this project which will connect residents and visitors with increased opportunities to walk, bike, and run right here in Fort Saskatchewan and throughout the river valley. We have made unprecedented investments in Canada's infrastructure since 2006, and through the New Building Canada Fund, we will continue to focus on creating jobs, promoting growth, and building strong, prosperous communities across Canada."
