June 30th, 2014 – Penticton, British Columbia – Transport Canada
The Government of Canada has awarded Peter’s Bros Construction Ltd. with a contract for $6,637,072.05 (GST included) to complete the runway rehabilitation at Penticton Airport. The project will include new pavement on Runway 16–34, Taxiway A and airside roads.
The runway rehabilitation is scheduled to begin on July 14th and completed by October 30th, 2014. To minimize impact on the airport’s pilots and passengers, the decision was made to close the main runway during the night in the summer. The remaining taxi-way paving will occur during the day.
To improve runway safety at the airport, the project is planned for 2014. Delaying the project could cause continued deterioration of the runway, likely resulting in higher repair costs, and potentially causing a longer disruption to the traveling public.
