Yarmouth’s residents and visitors will come together in July to celebrate the community’s rich seafaring culture and history during the Seafest and Rudder’s Parade of Lights Festival.
The Government of Canada has provided $14,300 in funding to the Seafest Association through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program.
Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament (West Nova), made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. This funding will allow the Seafest Association to present the 36th edition of the Seafest and Rudder’s Parade of Lights Festival from July 16 to 26.
“It is important as Canadians to know where we come from and to understand the history that has shaped our communities. The Seafest and Rudder’s Parade of Lights Festival is a wonderful way to contribute to our appreciation of Yarmouth’s rich seafaring history.”
—The Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
“I am pleased that our Government is supporting the Seafest Festival, a popular annual event in southwest Nova Scotia. This festival brings residents and visitors of all ages together to celebrate the sea, while showcasing local talent and boosting the local economy.”
—Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament (West Nova)
“This funding helps us continue to maintain a primarily local flavour to the Seafest Festival. We are able to hire local bands and artisans, and the funding gives us the opportunity to present a locally written play that features local artists.”
