Groesbeek, The Netherlands – On July 17, a Canadian contingent of approximately 200 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and civilian VIPs participating in the 98th annual International Four Days MarchesNijmegen will visit the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. The contingent will stop two-thirds of the way through their daily 40-kilometre march to pay their respects to over 2300 Canadian soldiers and airmen who died in the various battles to liberate the Netherlands in 1944 and 1945.
Attending the event will be the following VIPs: Wladyslaw Lizon, Member of Parliament for Mississauga East—Cooksville; Vice-Admiral Robert Davidson, Canadian Military Representative for NATO; Brigadier-General Alain Pelletier, Joint Task Force Nijmegen Contingent Commander; Janice Burke, Veterans Affairs Canada Senior Director of Strategic Policy Integration; Scott Clark, Honourary Colonel of 22 Wing/CFB North Bay, and President of Clark Marketing Communications; and Comrades Daniel Demers and Andre Wesseling of the Royal Canadian Legion. Other foreign VIPs will be Lieutenant-Colonel Ed Caelen, Camp Heumensoord Commander, Royal Netherlands Forces; Colonel Nick Channer, Military Contingent Commander for The United Kingdom and Comrade Gerard Hendricks, from the Royal Canadian Legion Netherlands Branch.
