The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is monitoring the path of Hurricane Arthur as it makes its way up the northeastern United States.
On Canada's east coast, New Brunswick Power's Point Lepreau Generating Station is following its severe weather emergency procedures, which call for the plant to shutdown if conditions warrant it.
The CNSC has onsite staff at the facility, who have already verified that all the necessary precautions have been taken.
Canadian nuclear power plants are designed to withstand external hazards such as hurricane-force winds and associated flooding.
