The Kamloops Art Gallery has received funding of $5,529 under the Museums Assistance Program to improve the accessibility and functionality of its collections management system.
This support will allow the gallery to purchase new software, undertake a multimedia and network upgrade, migrate information from its old database, and train staff on the new system. The gallery will also implement an online component to its collection, allowing the public greater virtual access to its works.
Cathy McLeod, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour and for Western Economic Diversification and Member of Parliament (Kamloops–Thompson–Cariboo), made this announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

“The growth of an art museum’s permanent collection is an inevitable and key part of its role as a cultural institution. Receiving support from Canadian Heritage to upgrade our current DOS-based collections management system to newer database software means that we will now have the ability to share our rich permanent collection of contemporary and historical works with the public and other museum professionals online. The opportunity to upgrade to a newer database will also enable the Kamloops Art Gallery to more efficiently meet accepted museum standards for collections information management in the areas of cataloguing acquisitions, tracking incoming and outgoing loans, and exhibitions management. This assistance will make a world of difference to our operations both internally and externally.”
