Coastal Business Opportunities Incorporated, a Cape Breton-based Community Business Development Corporation, will co-ordinate and administer a Youth Internship Program (YIP) for Cape Breton Island. The Government of Canada is contributing $340,000 towards the program that will provide ten young people between the ages of 18 and 35 with year-long internships in the field of community economic development.
Funding is being provided through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Business Development Program.
Quick Facts:
- YIP students will assist non-profit organizations in Cape Breton to further their mandates and to implement special projects in priority sectors including: tourism, golf marketing, major event organization, festivals and events, energy, port development, technology and innovation.
- Under this initiative, youth interns will be paid directly by CBDC, while the employer organizations will be reimbursed for pre-approved costs for items such as incremental overhead, travel and training.
- In Nova Scotia, thirteen Community Business Development Corporations offer training and advisory services to entrepreneurs. CBDCs share best practices, promote entrepreneurship and deliver provincial initiatives such as Students in Business and the Youth Internship Program.
