A small, family-owned business in Glace Bay is serving up a recipe for success. McFadgen’s Bakery has successfully completed an expansion of its facilities thanks to assistance from the Government of Canada. Through its Business Development Program, ACOA has provided a $129,000 repayable contribution to support renovations and equipment acquisition, enabling the bakery to produce several new product lines that complement the company’s existing product base.

- McFadgen's Bakery is a third-generation, family-owned wholesale bakery operating since 1948.
- With two facilities in Glace Bay, McFadgen’s employs 38 individuals. Four full-time and three part-time positions were added as a result of the expansion.
- McFadgen’s is managed by four grandsons of the company’s founder.
- Under its MOM’S brand, the company produces a full line of breads, rolls and pastries for Cape Breton grocery stores, restaurants and institutions, as well as bakery products for grocery stores throughout the Atlantic Provinces and commercial customers in Ontario and the Magdalene Islands.
